Welcome to RuedaRDU!
What is Rueda?
Rueda.
Rueda is a form of dance that originated in Cuba. Rueda consists of multiple couples dancing to Salsa music. One person will call out various moves and partner changes. It is a beautiful dance that is a lot of fun to dance as well as watch. Many of the moves can be done with just one on one partner dancing, and is also a great way to learn to dance Salsa.
Rumba.
Rumba is Spanish word that can mean several things. Before rumba became Rumba, it meant to party, to have a good time. The most important part of dancing is to enjoy it! Share the music with friends, family, and everyone who loves to dance! Vamos pa' rumba!
Rumba is also a form of Afro-Cuban dance and music derived from the African slaves brought to Cuba to work the plantations.
Clave.
In the simplest terms, clave are a pair of two wooden sticks used to play the 2-3 or 3-2 rhythm that is the driving force behind the Afro-Cuban rhythms that are the heart of Salsa music. Modern Salsa has many songs where the clave is not explicitly heard, but guides the music in the background. Understanding the Clave is essential to both musicians and dancers. Don't let this scare you though, like all good things, the clave is easy to learn, but will take a life time to master!
